Other Free or Discounted Options
- Indigenous peoples: In most provinces, Indigenous people with treaty rights can fish for food, social, and ceremonial purposes without a provincial licence.
- Additional resident exemptions: Some provinces also offer special access, discounts, or extra exemptions for veterans, military members, seniors, or other qualifying groups.
- Disability exemptions: Some provinces offer reduced-rate or free licences for people with qualifying disabilities.
- National parks: Provincial free fishing dates do not remove the Parks Canada permit requirement inside national park boundaries.

Rules During Free Fishing Events
A free fishing event removes the licence requirement only where the province says it does. Other regulations remain in effect: catch limits, size restrictions, seasonal closures, gear restrictions, and species-specific rules. Carry any proof or identification required by the local event or issuing authority; there is no single Canada-wide photo-ID rule for every free-fishing event.
